What is Christianity all About?

At the heart of Christianity is the gospel, the good news about Jesus.

What is the Gospel?

During the time of the Romans, if battles were fought and won, a runner would go from the battlefield to report to the commander, he would take with him the gospel, the good news.

Christians use the same word “gospel” for the good news they have to share.

The good news is that God cares. God cares for you. The Bible tells us God cares so much that Jesus came to earth to live amongst us.

Many religions tell us if we could just be good enough, we will get to God, but most of us know that we could never be good enough to match God’s standards. The Bible makes it clear that God’s standards are perfection, 100% of the time. Can you match that?

The Bible also tells us that God loves us so much that he wants us to be with him. The only way this is possible is if someone else takes the punishment that we deserve and pays the cost of all our rebellion against God. How can this be, who could do that? Who has lived a life of perfection, 100% of the time?

This is the gospel – God came to earth as Jesus. He lived a perfect life and then he was nailed to a cross for you and me. Jesus took the punishment, he took all our wrong and is ready to replace it with all his good.

This gift is free, all you have to do is come to God, recognise that you have failed and recognise that you need help so you can be made right with him. Ask Jesus to come into your life and take over. Jesus can do much better at that than we can, and he has promised that anyone who comes to him, he will not turn away.
